Theme Turnabout Jazz Soul - Godot - The Fragrance of Dark Coffee
  • Face and Eyes - Miles has a face that is lean, with moderately defined cheekbones, a sharp chin, and an established jaw providing him with a face shape between that of ‘triangle’ and ‘diamond’. His complexion is pallid, the skin of his face is still supple yet crowfeet wrinkles can be observed near his verdant green eyes. Remaining traces of a previously haggard state can be observed in his features, but have largely faded
  • Hair - Mixed white and steel grey coloration with a presence of volume. He keeps his hair parted with the part to the left side of his scalp, bangs are styled and swept upward to remain clear of his face.
  • Body - 36/32/36 Inches, 162lbs / 91.5/81.30/92 Centimeters, 73.48 Kg

Miles possesses a lean build which age has added some softness to despite the best efforts of a stable exercise routine. Even while keeping physically fit, his overall skin color keeps the same pallid complexion of his face, but marred with thin scars of incisions and hair-thin seams where synthetic and organic meet, as one of his legs is a prosthesis, while muscular and skeletal structural augmentations have left their marks upon his torso and limbs, and half-a-hair-width thin seams can be found along the bottom contour of his jaw and skull where a brain-case module was built around the existing cranium.

  • Distinguishing Features - Cybernetic left eye prosthesis, often wears wire or no frame glasses, prosthetic right leg.
  • Voice - To Be Announced

Psychology - Aged. Aged is the best way to speak of Miles’ worldview, as he has grown from a socially awkward introvert who enlisted in a space bound military a universe away. Experience has done well to bring him out of his shell, as he has become confident in his own self. He still maintains a cynical caution around new people, but it is backed up with a decisiveness in action to make a choice to keep those who he cares for close, while those who would be an inconvenience at arm’s length. With confidence also comes a brash decisiveness which has served him well in his years.

  • Likes - Sex, drugs, money, knowledge, power, his wife Sana.
  • Dislikes - Know-it-alls, cowardice, smug attitudes, suffering.
  • Goals - With marriage and financial stability, his goal stands to maintain his lifestyle which he has carved out, and to enjoy his life while doing it.

Personality - He has one.

Affiliations and Beliefs

Removed from the obligations and history of an existence that lingers purely as something kin to the sacred memories left behind by a fever dream, Miles’ affiliations exist purely in the present. His wife, his friends, and those who he is obligated to perform services for as dictated by employment.

His beliefs are shaped not by coin, not by loyalty, but from fact and figure, driven by the ethos of a man of science; question, research, hypothesis, experiment, observe, evaluate results, and act upon his newfound understanding, at least, that’s whenever possible. Otherwise, he believes in his gut feeling and will find fit to save a life or kill based upon that feeling if needed.

A vague concept of what was exists for the men and women which left their birthplaces behind, Miles included. Another life, another place, the strings of space and time which knit together history, present, and future for another place were cut for Miles in crossing over. A world away, he had a mother, a father, a spattering of relatives. A world away, he had youthful ambitions, a history of service, a break, and a change. A world away, he made another life, he learned to live for what and who mattered, and he carried that life and living with him as he crossed from that world, to live amongst those who thrust themselves upon a new way of being.

In crossing from ‘there’ to ‘here’, Miles left behind much, but brought with him his expertise, his knowledge, his spirit, his wife, and his dearest friends. A simple life calls to him, a life he needs to keep earning his way to keep and with that he continues to work with a patient turned colleague, and the generous hosts of the Lorath Matriarchy who put the proverbial bread on the table.

Miles current endeavors consist of contract research and development operations for the Lorath Matriarchy in service with the Lorath Self Defense Force.

Abilities are different from Skills - as Skills represent common knowledge throughout the whole profession while abilities represent a character's personal twists on something. For example, many characters have the Vehicles skill, but a handful of individuals have the ability to make the car do some beautiful stunts. Many people may know how to use the Firearms skill, but some people can intuitively reassemble firearms or quick-draw.

Theme - List the source of your character's abilities here. This can include Martial, Gadgets, Artificial Intelligence, Cybernetics, Racial, Mutations, Psionics, Spellcasting, and more.

  • Street Rat - Raised far away from any silver spoons, Miles’ early development was spent with a sink-or-swim necessity to know how to walk the walk and talk the talk of his homeland’s scoundrels.
    • Ability - Being able to keep up with a three card monty, picking a lock, resisting and evading arrest, taking cover from gunfire, returning fire, burning down someone’s flat, reading and creating graffiti to communicate, being able to take a hit and give one right back, and most importantly being able to talk a good talk to avoid doing any of the aforementioned activities. Those are the things which come together in a man who had successfully navigated the urban jungle and came out on top.
  • Man of Science - Even a man of the streets needs to know a trade, to chase the dream of being able to hang up a shingle and make an honest dime. Miles was no different in his wants, as he found his calling in questions, observations, testing, and documentation. After all; the skill to do a task was commonplace, the ability to do so with creativity, dedication, and originality was a talent.
    • Ability - Starting from a foundation in industrial production focused education in physics and chemistry introduced in his childhood, and enough to get him into a vocational study program that held his interest in adolescence despite the daily charms of sex, guns, and drugs which was rampant outside of academic life, Miles’ initial focus was one built around an engineer’s skillset. Skills to put metal to metal, mixing elements, and applying forces to guide these fundamental components into being useful products and substances was the tooth-cutting for the man.

Sex, guns, drugs, metals, substances, there was a theme there in Miles’ life, the way in which these things all meshed with the condition of humanity. Influences of biochemistry, prostheses, physiology, pharmacology, biomechanical augmentation, genetic modification, surgical alteration, ministration of medicine, and creation. There was a carnal appeal in it all, to have such a means to apply influence through such a seemingly fundamental expertise. For a young man from a rough world, it was a meal ticket, it was a promise for prosperity, and it was a shot at becoming a ‘somebody’ and enjoying the hell out of it. Age and wisdom mulled the prospect from merely being a means to make a bankroll, to being something greater; to become a ‘somebody’ who can be remembered for doing the right thing, usually, at least. From this, Miles has a high-end expertise in multiple scientific disciplines and the mindset to expand further.

  • Mil-Spec - Join the Navy they said, see the world they said. As part of Miles’ aim at scientific endeavors, there was a need for resources, and opportunities. Much like many human men before him, he figured military service would be the solution to his needs. Serve, get rank, get money, get tenure in a government funded gig, it seemed like a good idea at the time.
    • Ability - Signed up as a field scientist and medic, Miles’ service in a military a universe away has ingrained into him a particular set of skills. His time in service had far more time behind a trigger than a microscope, to say the least. Engagements had him exchanging fire in a power armor in the void of space, to being kilometers beneath secret government facilities taking fire from biological super weapons with beam weapons.

As a requirement in his military career, Miles firearm expertise went beyond how to use a gun in a back alley shootout, to being able to use various forms of personnel operated weaponry in short, mid, and long-range engagements. Miles’ capacity to use such weapons have been developed largely for close range engagements however, for purposes of close-range urban combat and in-ship combat. Miles’ affinity for such engagement distances had even prompted his successful modification of standard issue equipment into superior close-range kit.

Operational skills for Miles extended beyond mere infantry operations, as his expertise was extended into power armor operation, starship operation, piloting, and crew served equipment operation. His expertise grew with exposure to the battle craft needed to survive, but survival was something which was supplemented during his time in the field, as he also learned how to perform repairs on the equipment he was to work with while in service.

Success in service led to a raise in rank, with rank came responsibility, responsibility over others. As part of his responsibility to his rank Miles developed his capacity for communication to allow for effective leadership in the field and aboard ship, able to relay information effectively in or out of combat. His communication skills also expanded in his exposure to the world around him, as he learned several languages to supplement his ability to lead, and to communicate with those he would work with in his capacity as a medical officer.

  • ”Better than he was before, better, stronger, faster.” - As was common practice in his culture of origin, Miles’ body was cybernetically enhanced through elective modification and addition of augmentations.
    • Ability - Technological improvement loans itself far less to an emotional account, as Miles’ cybernetics can be accounted for as a laundry list of augmentations consisting of a cybernetic optical implant and housing assembly, protective ‘brain case’ assembly housing Miles’ brain and providing critical I/O and UI functionality and self-contained life support, synthetic muscle tissue augmentation, internally housed neural data processor and storage, autonomic function control, motor control refinement and enhancement, and a prosthetic leg. Recent additions consist of a Lorath developed multi-lobe medical implant which was embedded in his abdominal cavity, providing redundant and enhanced endocrine, hepatic, and nephratic functions, along with added capacity for synthesis and internal administration of various biochemical and pharmaceutical compounds including Lorath Medical Nanomachine Compounds. Miles’ other recent addition includes an infusion port for nutrient compounds, medical treatment compounds, and biological material infusions such as blood or organic Pico-Jelly.
  • More Human Than a Human - Miles’ skills and capabilities have a guiding principle behind their effectiveness; the human predisposition toward doing the things that really would not be recommended as ‘best form’, and this is made evident by some of the ways his penchants have directed his expertise.
    • Ability - Abilities to ‘feel the world’ in a heightened state, to concentrate through the extreme, to reach out with the mind; while some seek gurus, and others may reflect upon fabled words, Miles’ ability has come from taking large quantities of drugs. Abilities to entertain, to interact, to make a personal impact; they come from his brash ability to flirt, and back it up with carnal expertise and capability. Abilities to survive a firefight, or evade an enemy, come from his distinctively human capacity to rationalize and apply concepts of; “Better you than me” and “Every man for himself”.

Rotten in many ways but redeeming in others; Miles’ capacity for raw humanity has extended into his responsibilities. Love, empathy, duty, even a touch of a homebrew ethical morality, they come together to sculpt his ability to be a lover, a fighter, a creator, a killer, and knowing how and when to apply what he knows and what he does to a situation appropriately.

Spellbook

  • Machina caro et Magia - Magic of flesh and machine. Miles’ cybernetically augmented body is in possession of a genuine soul allowing for his essence to interact with the essential energies of life and being which comprise the universe. Despite his living soul, his natural magical potential is limited by inexperience, an inexperience which he has partially bridged with the technological.
    • Spellcap: Incorporated into the thigh of his cybernetic leg, a capacitor system has been incorporated. Synthetic tendons, grafted nerves, micro-crystalline fibers, amalgamations of magically reactive metals, all crafted and woven into a high-energy transfer system. Effectively coming down to be a capacitor receptacle, the spellcap system allows Miles to insert a cylindrical capacitance vessel which has been infused with the concentrated life energies of donor flora and fauna, as well as the focused spellcraft of contributing magic wielders. Once the capacitance vessel is tapped, Miles is able to route the energy contained through his cybernetically augmented tissues, allowing for the contained energy to be released as an imitation of the original spellcraft imbued into the vessel, or, to be used as a catalyst for Miles’ own magic potential.
    • Essence Siphon: Incorporated as a secondary function of the Spellcap system, the essence siphon allows Miles’ body to function like an antenna, as naturally occurring magical energies surrounding Miles interact with him, excess that would simply pass over and through him is instead caught, and routed into a spellcap vessel if an empty or partially filled spellcap is chambered in the spellcap receptacle.
    • Oculi Verax: Commissioned as another eye to be fitted into his skull at his choosing, Miles is in possession of a spherical orb, precision crafted to fit correctly in his cybernetic optic socket. This orb has been crafted using a layered lattice of Lorath rune scribed crystal. Through the spellcraft embedded into the crystalline structure, not only visible light, but magical energy flows and irregularities are interpreted into electric signal impulses routed into Miles’ optical processor and interpreted into visual perception of energies tied to souls, spellcraft, and the interaction between the two.
    • Telepathic Augmentation: As a holdover of modifications made a universe away to permit rapid and silent communication between persons with their minds linked through biotechnology, the capability to communicate through telepathy exists for Miles as a product of repeated and continued use of the method, a practiced synergy between brain and processor, Miles is able to telepathically communicate with organic ‘sensitives’ able to perceive telepathy, as well as with computerized I/O systems outfitted with appropriate transceiver hardware.
  • Read The F!@#ing Manual - Like any proper engineer, technician, mechanic, or scientist, Miles recognizes the importance of user manuals. This importance extends to spellcraft, as documentation of spells, written with step-by-step instruction for implementation, can serve as a suitable framework for Miles’ use of the spell. So long as the spell is documented fully, and is legible, Miles can perform limited degrees of spellcraft using magic suited for students and novices.
    • What the Hell am I Reading?: What serves to hinder Miles’ ability to advance in magical arts is the language of magic. Beyond the simple cantrips which exist for the most novice of spell weavers in various fields of magic, Miles is unable to go much further due to not having a comprehension of the written or oral structure of advanced magic usage which relies on concepts far outside of normal linguistics.
  • Neurokinesis - As an extension of Miles’ ability to exert limited control over magical energies, his limited telepathic ability, and mostly his expertise in biological sciences Miles is able to exert short-range limited projection of bioelectrical discharges. Miles’ relatively weak bioelectric discharges are calibrated to interact with neural receptors in biological organisms with a nervous system reliant on bioelectrical impulses. Effects of this ability are relatively minor when held in comparison to the abilities of Occhestians, or dedicated spellcrafters focused on controlling magics.
    • Numbing: Through precision bioelectric stimulation, Miles can temporarily numb tactile sensation receptors, and immobilize exposed muscle tissue.
    • Stimulation: Applied in much the same manner as numbing a subject, Miles is able to apply bioelectric impulses to induce sensations in nerve endings, creating momentary or temporarily lingering sensations in nerve groups. Miles’ limited proficiency prevents him from applying this skill to induce any pain beyond a mere sensation of a soft pinprick or a static shock. This ability can also be used to induce contraction in exposed muscle tissue.
