Protectors Of The Alliance
The Protectors of the Alliance are the Raiken military force. Their duty is to defend the Raiken people and preserve the Raiconian Alliance from internal and external threats. The 'Protectors', as they are nicknamed, are the police force and defense force for the Alliance.
The Raiken possess a rather impressive military for their size though this is somewhat expected as much of their forces are employed to guard against predators and police the people. The Raiken favor heavily armored and heavily armed ships, turning any conflict into a long slug-fest. On the ground, they employ the same tactic, slowly wearing down their opponents.
The Protectors of the Alliance was founded in RAC 000, as it was written into the Tiam vi Raiken. The Protectors duties to the Alliance have been expanded since their initial founding. Their actions are controlled by the Nacur Shai vi Dradai.
History
After the destruction following their civil war, it was clear that the government would need a force to police the people. This force would be neutral and unlike the clans, this force could provide justice fairly. With that, the Protectors of the Alliance was formed, their duty was to bring justice to the people, safeguard the unity of the Raiken, and assist in fending off predators.

The true test of the Protectors wasn't until RAC 230 when a shootout in the streets almost escalated into a second civil war. When the clan's rioted in the streets, the Protectors were called in pacify them. They were successful in putting down the riots, maintaining the Alliance. Although the Protectors are charged with defending the people, this set the precedent that maintaining the Alliance is first and foremost duty of the Protectors.
Since then, the Protectors of the Alliance have grown stronger and stronger, turning from a police force into a full-fledged military and their presence in the Raiken's lives has grown substantially. Warriors are posted every few street blocks, keeping a watchful eye on the populace.
Ranks
The Raiken have a single set of ranks that are used for all military personnel. The ranks begin at RF-1 and end at RC-13. 'Enlisted' personnel are RF-1 through RF-6. 'Officer' ranks are RO-7 through RO-11. 'Command' ranks are RC-12 and RC-13.
Code of Honor
The Raiken follow a strict Code of Honor and violation of this code is grounds for punishment.
- Preserve the Alliance
- Above all else, ensure the Alliance's good health
- Safeguard the people
- Protect the innocent from all threats
- Honor the Roshya and their code
- The Roshya taught us well, obey their code.
- Honor the fallen, friend and foe alike
- The bodies of the fallen are sacred, desecration of the dead is forbidden
- Leave no brother or sister behind
- Whenever possible, the wounded are to be recovered
Organization
The Protectors of the Alliance is broken up into branches, allowing certain personnel to focus on their appointed tasks.
Additional information on organization can be found here: Protectors of the Alliance Organization
High Council of Warriors
The High Council of Warriors is the top of the command structure for the Protectors. It is composed of the thirteen highest ranked warriors, all of which are RC-12 or RC-13. They manage the 'big-picture', passing on various orders to specialized Ziras Shai.
Ziras Shai
There are many Ziras Sa'Shai devoted to specialized tasks such as military production, weapons research, astronomy, distribution of supplies, and more.
Ziras Shai vi Unar
This Ziras Shai is completely devoted to managing the production of all military goods. Their control over production ranges from small things such as rations and guns to large-scale production such as vehicles and starships. The concentrated effort of this Ziras Shai ensures that the Alliance always has what it needs when it needs it.
Ziras Shai vi Culir
This Ziras Shai is charged with researching military technology, improving upon old designs and creating new ones. In addition to researching technology, this Ziras Shai also directs the testing of new technology, ensuring it is ready for mass production. The efforts of this Ziras Shai ensures the Alliance is always up to date, bringing the best to every fight.
Ziras Shai vi Rial
The Ziras Shai vi Rial is responsible for studying the stars. This ranges from studying nearby star systems, gathering information through observation, to investigating disturbances and phenomena in space. This council is also responsible for mapping the galaxy, keeping the Alliance Forces up to date. The efforts of Ziras Shai vi Rial keep the Alliance in the know and provides invaluable intelligence to exploration teams.
Ziras Shai vi Rhusa
This Ziras Shai acts much like the director of a cargo company. It's sole task is to ensure everything the military needs gets to where it needs to be. Ziras Shai vi Rhusa and Ziras Shai vi Unar work very closely, ensuring the military is supplied with whatever it needs.
Training
Raiken soldiers undergo extensive training, making them true warriors, despite their entire race being warriors.
Basic Training
The first year and a half of a Raiken soldiers life are spent undergoing rigorous training all over their homeworld. It isn't uncommon for soldiers to die during basic training.
The Raiken train for almost four orbits in each of Ranil'inas's environments, from the deserts to the tundra. They learn how to survive and fight in each region while undergoing physical and mental exercises. While they are training, they are taught the basics of military service, qualifying each for an infantry role.
After graduating from basic training, soldiers may opt for secondary training. These courses are usually a year long in length, although more complex roles may take longer, and they are designed to qualify soldiers to perform special occupations, such as a pilot or engineer. It is not required for any soldier to take secondary training, unless they desire to fulfill a certain role. Soldiers with latent talents are suggested to take the appropriate secondary courses.
Officer Training
When a Dradai'roshya or any other rank is promoted to Ziras Nadrai or a soldier enlists as a Ziras Nadrai (which is rare), they are sent to a military academy for six months, where they receive additional training on leadership. This is more of a formality, as it is extremely rare for an individual to enter the military as an officer, soldiers already have a very good grasp on leadership by this point.
Equipment
The Protectors of the Alliance employs heavily armored and heavily armed craft. Their weapons usually lack rate of fire but are accurate and pack a punch. Most Protector weapons are mass drivers (Gauss Cannons).
Starships
The ships fielded by the Protectors are usually quite large, featuring plenty of armored plating. They are typically designed for 'broadsiding'. Many ships feature an armored tip on the bow, which is designed for ramming hostile vessels. Most of the larger starships are unable to operate in a planet's atmosphere and are constructed on Orbital Shipyards around the most developed worlds.
- Judgement Battleship - The Alliance is past judging once the Judgement arrives. Has enough armor and guns to destroy a squad of smaller vessels by itself. Has a distinct pointed bow where the twin spinal cannons await.
Starship Weaponry
- Sovasik'roshya Gauss Cannon - The primary armament for any Alliance starship, featuring a few different sizes. Like most Raiken weapons, it fires a kinetic slug at high speeds to rend armor.
- Tovai'roshya Point Defense - A fast-firing Gauss point defense which is adept at destroying 'slow' projectiles, such as missiles. Can also be used to tear lighter vessels apart.
- Akalo'roshya Spinal Gauss Cannon - A staple of the Alliance. Most ships possess one of the two sizes. This cannon is embedded within the 'spine' of starships, hence the name. It is only capable of firing at what the vessel is pointed at. Great for tearing another vessel apart with a handful of shots.
Vehicles/Mecha
The Protectors field a variety of ground-based and air-based vehicles. Like their starships, they are usually quite slow but are well-armed and well-armored. Instead of fielding power armor, since the Raiken's scales act as natural armor, the Protectors field a variety of mecha.
- Aeras'Tiros Dropship - The Raiken hate flying, but it's certainly faster than walking. Transport capable of carrying whatever fits in the bay, traditionally troops. Usually fitted with some manner of ground support weapons and AA. Suitable for use in space. Other variants exist for more specialized uses.
- Avatar Battlesuit - It's you, but four times larger. A piloted battlesuit that mimics the actions of the pilot. Essentially acts as a larger version of the pilot, including larger guns. A versatile platform, capable of fulfilling plenty of roles with the switch of a loadout.
Vehicle Weaponry
- Sovasik'roshya Gauss Cannon - Essentially just a smaller version of the Sovasik'roshya Cannon used on starships. Featured on non-battlesuit vehicles.
- Tovai'roshya Point Defense - A smaller version of the Tovai'roshya used on starships. Adept at intercepting missiles and other 'slow' moving projectiles.
Handheld Weaponry
Weapons fielded by Raiken personnel might be considered anti-tank weapons by others. Their weapons are designed to pierce thick armor, as the Raiken have very thick and strong scales. While many weapons are fielded normally, many weapons require a 'rig'. These Rig-Mounted weapons are better suited to vehicles, but the Raiken can still handle them with assistance.
- solus_cannon - The bread and butter of the infantry. Trusty, reliable, traditional. A gauss-cannon 'rifle' fitted with a revolver-like magazine. Capable of piercing thick armor with kinetic rounds.
- roth_unarasis_revolver - The preferred sidearm for most. Gauss revolver with the punch of a Solus. Loud and proud.
- Aeras Veamo Sniper - Essentially a re-kitted Solus Cannon with additional gauss coils and a higher grade power supply. Better with distance.
- Slag Cannon - Short-range weapon initially designed for sealing hull breaches. Propels superheated slag canisters in a cone. Mind the gap.
- Shard Cannon - Short-range weapon that fulfills the role of a 'shotgun'. Fires splintered Esyga rounds as smaller shards. Great for squishier things.
- Fireshard Anti-Armor Rifle - Anti-armor weapon that fires small, shaped explosive charges within an armored casing. Designed to pierce then explode. As it is not a Gauss Cannon, the rounds travel much slower.
- Thunderstorm Rapid-fire Gauss Cannon - The Raiken equivalent to a SAW. Designed to lay down suppressing fire, not accurate fire. Has the appearance of a larger, clunkier Solus. This extra bulk allows the fitting of additional gauss coils, allowing the faster spin-up time and recharge times, just about doubling the rate of fire. Utilizes the same feeding system as a Solus, but rather than the typical 50mm slug, it fires 40mm. Coupled with a larger cylinder, this allows the Thunderstorm to carry 40 slugs.
Other Handheld/Worn Combat Equipment
- Thunder Charge - A powerful, directional explosive with a variety of applications. Generally used to destroy or breach what Raiken fists cannot. Comes in different sizes for the size of the problem.
- Ador Ceva Breaching Shield - A handheld shield utilizing the Ador Ceva Armor System. This bulky, dual plated shield is capable of absorbing the impact from most kinetic weapons, even Solus rounds. Like the larger version, damaging the inner plate too much renders it mostly useless.
- Alliance Combat Vest - While the Raiken are notoriously well armored, especially when compared to other species, they still employ some measure of body armor for protection against their own firearms. A combat vest features additional plating comprised of A'unavas'rhi in key areas in the chest, neck, and shoulders. This vest is also kitted with pouches and clips for ammunition and other equipment.
- Alliance Combat Uniform - When in combat, the more 'decorative' robes aren't as well suited. Colored appropiately for the environment, the combat uniform is more form-fitting and less likely to become caught on equipment or the environment. It still only covers the back, shoulders, upper arms, and sides of the chest.
Other Handheld Non-Combat Equipment
- RACTAG - Although the Raiconian Alliance Communications and Tactical Advantage Gauntlet (RACTAG) is used by the entirety of the Alliance, including civilians, it is worth mentioning as part of the standard kit for soldiers. In addition to civilian function, it possesses a few additional functions for military personnel, usually related to their profession and rank.
- Medical Kit - Comes in different shapes and sizes, depending on the user. All personnel are issued a small individual kit to treat their own wounds until a Healer or War Priest can tend to them. This usually consists of some bandages and sprayable medical foam. Designated healers have an expanded kit suited to their function.
- Backpack - As varied as the carrier. Suitable for carrying just about anything required for the task.
Uniforms
The Protectors of the Alliance use a loose-fitting, open-faced robe as their uniform. The robe has short sleeves, reaches to the wearers ankles, and splits at the wearers tail. The cloth is white with a black trim. Rank and Occupation goes on the right shoulder while Clan and Station go on the left shoulder. The symbol of the Protectors is stitched on the back of the garment.
Occupations
The Protectors have many different occupations available though most require secondary training and some require field experience.
Required Skills
All Raiken are expected to have these skills.
- Communications - All Raiken can speak their native tongue, Ris Vi Raiken, fluently. In addition, all Raiken should be able to operate communications devices and understand military codes and signals.
- Survival - A significant portion of their basic training revolves around surviving in any environment, no matter how hostile. All military personnel know how to construct basic shelter, hunt for food, find drinking water, navigate harsh terrain and plenty other survival skills.
- Fighting - Every Raiken knows how to fight long before they enlist with the military. Their basic training covers any weapon the Protectors of the Alliance fields. Depending on their specialization, their training may focus on one class of a weapon. In addition to weapons training, their hand-to-hand combat is refined, their fighting style takes advantage of their massive form and weight.
- Physical - Military personnel are expected to maintain peak physical condition.
