Theme - A man with a double consciousness, and skills in espionage, and infiltration.
Psychology - Danny's psyche is a two-tined fork. Originally, he was a pirate by the name of Robert Forde - a pragmatic and darkly-inclined fellow with no qualms against violence and a lack of empathy towards his targets. During a disagreement with a partner over splitting loot, Robert was shot at, and a bullet grazed his skull. His attacker presumed he was dead when he hit the ground and started bleeding, so they took the money and ran.
Robert woke up two days later in an empty apartment with a sheet over his head, and no idea of who he was. He created the name 'Danny Hanley-Lewis' and proceeded back into the world anew as a lonely vagabond, with a more reserved and cool head than his former self. Danny strived for order and took up more upstanding jobs as a part of his wandering through space, avoiding undue attention from the long arm of the law, and preferring to keep deals close and quiet.
During his journey aboard the LSDF Herald however, the memories and persona Danny's previous self came flooding back upon reaching the new universe. After some initial confusion and a severe headache with the shock of two individuals occupying one body, Danny and Robert had time to bond over putting the ship back together. Their approaches and differing worldviews appear to have melded together, with Robert's pragmatism and ruthlessness, and Danny's calculating and cool head reaching a suitable and sustainable arrangement - it wasn't like Robert could go anywhere.
Personality - Danny is a quiet man when left to his own devices, polite and calm toned when dealing with whatever assignment or bounty is before him. Bits of Robert's mannerisms and vocabulary creep in, consisting of coarse slang and vernacular. When in control, Robert's tone is much more haughty and broad, uncannily straightforward compared to Danny's softer spoken delivery. If Robert senses someone's weakness or catches someone telling lie2), he will pounce on it. Danny takes a different approach to dealing with irregularities - cross examining them before exacting appropriate action.
Danny's major affiliation is with the Lorath Matriarchy, working as a contractor for the LSDF Herald. However, he does not think much of the Lorath dogma and belief system; So long as they hold up their end of the deal and pay him for his services. Robert isn't entirely sure who the Lorath are, but he trusts Danny's judgement on them - and their ladies are nice on the eyes to him. The icing on the cake was the first one he met telling him and Danny to raid a space station.
Danny speaks Basic, and Lorath Ly'thir. Robert can only speak Basic.
Born as Robert Forde in another universe, this man grew up in a slum where violence was the norm, and Robert graduated from petty crimes into grand thefts and felonies. Eventually, he acquired a ship by hook and crook, and spent a good deal of his time rolling with different crews and eventually leading his own. One day at the 'peak' of his performance, a dispute over loot division between him and a love interest ended up with him being gunned down - or so his attacker thought after grabbing the cash and running in haste.
Two days later, Robert woke up in an empty apartment with a sheet covering him, a pair of bloody scars grazing his head, no idea of who he was, or how he got there. After leaving and trying to get by in a now unfamiliar neighbourhood, he adopted the name 'Danny Hanley-Lewis' and restarted his life from the ground up. Amongst other things, Danny was press ganged into a militia, worked as a right-hand-man for a CEO, drifted throughout the galaxy, met a few celebrities, was taken up by a shady corporation and trained to be a 'search and rescue' operative, and put those skills to use as a bounty hunter.
After rolling with a solid crew for most of his hunting career, it came to an abrupt halt when a contact for a job sold them out. Danny had to bug out, and headed towards new opportunity with a foreign race called the Lorath. It was a safe bet, since the contract sounded too outlandish to believe if he told anyone else about it: “Go to an new universe, they said.”
After a week's worth of trials, evaluation, training, and study; He did, aboard the LSDF Herald, alongside a strange blue skinned thing, a very shouty and short tempered woman, and lead by a scarred and stern Lorath Fyunnen. In charge of the operation and some of the piloting procedures, Danny strapped himself in for a long journey to unknown territory.
When Danny crossed with the others, he found himself in a world of hurt. Something in the transition process undertaken by the Herald had made Danny recall his past, flashing before him in the blink of an eye - including the final moments. A shot to the head. After some initial shock and confusion, Danny tried to orient himself only to discover the other members of the expedition had suffered a considerably worse turn of affairs. Even so, there was still a job to do, and Robert's survival depended on it along with the blonde and the Lorath commander.
So Danny and Robert made themselves useful after some quick diagnosis, offering to begin assessing the damage and undertaking repairs on the stricken Herald, with some guidance granted by the fossilised blue-thing's backup robot. Together and backed up with the threat of dying alone and unwept for in an unfamiliar universe, Danny and Robert came to terms with each other. After all, where else could Robert go?
In both of his lives as a pirate and as a bounty hunter, Danny and Robert had to exercise subterfuge, deception, and misdirection to stay undetected wherever they went, and for whatever they had their eyes on. In particular they can perform many tricks with their hands - putting them to use to pick pockets, steal unattended things, and cheat at cards.
Danny learned how to handle a long blade as part of his training to become a search and rescue operative. In particular, he likes using powered edges. Robert meanwhile isn't as crafty with a sword, but he loves a baseball bat, a fire axe, bottles, chain garottes, and other improvised weapons.
Danny's mind is surprisingly plasticine in understanding new languages, and he can learn the pidgin of an unfamiliar language after spending a few weeks amongst native speakers. Robert seems to be unable to take advantage of this however.
With some training in simple firearms, Danny is proficient with pistols, submachine guns, and rifles. Robert has a preference for more 'in your face' weapons without an ounce of Danny's subtlety, and is noticeably more 'automatic' when handling firearms.
Possessing training in stabilising patients and patching up injuries, Danny can keep people medically safe and sound. Robert has no recollection of such skills, but he's happy to name the bones as he breaks them.
Danny can pilot light and ultralight spacecraft, and knows the standard docking and launch procedures, pre-flight checks, and aerobatics. Robert is also a capable pilot for similar craft, and remarkably aggressive if he can find an advantage.
Though his repair skills were a back seat to his killing skills, Danny had to ply himself to keep the Herald running once it landed in the new world with Robert. The crash course on the ship involved kludging fixes for a variety of starship systems, with no additional resources, and an encrypted operations documentation.

As far as Danny is aware, he had some pocket change in his luggage on the Herald, which is most likely worthless. That aside, he has no other legal tender.
