Lorath

The Lorath are the primary species living within the Lorath Matriarchy and are one of the two sapient species native to Lor along with the Helashio.

At their most basic the Lorath species is bipedal and humanoid in form sharing many visual similarities to humans. The primary difference between Lorath and human-derived species is that Lorath are an evolved avian, now monotreme species tracing their evolutionary roots to bird-like life native to their planet. This genesis is most evident in the presence of their small black feathered wings naturally present upon the backs of all Lorath, as well less obvious clues are apparent in their bone structure and method of reproduction.

One of the largest traits of the Lorath as a species is that they are divided into four distinct sub-species each achieved and maintained through a carefully maintained eugenics program. Despite the dividing lines between the different subspecies the race maintains several universal traits; individuals posses naturally white hair, pale grey skin, yellow eyes, and a pair of black feathered wings.

The Tur'lista serve as the unifying and ruling house of the Lorath, with each of the other castes serving a subordinate role seeking guidance and working at the behest of the ruling house. The head of House Tur'lista is typically a Lorath matriarch known as the Xiaah.

The Fyunnen are the warrior caste of the Matriarchy, living their lives to ensure the security and well being of all of their fellow Lorath. The most physically imposing of the castes the Fyunnen are best known for their stature, strength, and fervor in service of the Matriarchy. While obviously physically larger than most members of the other castes Fyunnen possess superior muscle and skeletal composition making them stronger and more durable than the other castes.

The Lmanel exist within the Matriarchy in a place of balance. The shaman caste works to ensure that the rest of the matriarchy remains balanced and looks after much of the spiritual well being of the Lorath. Physically the Lmanel are the most varied of the castes due to the capability for Lmanel to bond with animals in a process known as aspectation allowing the Lmanel to adopt traits of their chosen animal and perform a limited form of shape shifting to augment their bodies.

The Occhestian house is the psionic caste, known for their vast and powerful minds as well as their shorter stature making them the smallest of the three castes. While they lack the physical power or adaptability of their sister castes, the Occhestia posses mental faculties above and beyond that of their counterparts allowing them to think better, and faster than other lorath. Beyond this the Occhestian brain structure had developed in such a manner as to allow all within their caste the ability to use psionic abilities which shapes their culture.
