Maidenhand Creation Guide

An artificial offshoot of humanity created thousands of years ago for a war long since ended, Maidenhands are hardier and stronger than the average human or their contemporary peers, and seek to use their natural talents to further humanity and their peers.

  • All Maidenhands have Nanomachines floating through them. This makes them difficult to kill1), and easy for their bodies to modify. Technically, this doesn't make them human - just human derived.
    • This quality renders them artificial, and makes them unable to harness magic. However, Maidenhands can harness psionics.
  • Maidenhands have two families: Their blood relatives, and their Posse. A posse serves as a self-propelled family unit with no clear leader. This behaviour thought to be a carryover of when young Maidenhand adults would leave their families to serve with a squad.
    • Maidenhands who do not belong to a posse are called 'Fingers' if they are independent, or 'Pariah' if they were cast out.
  • Maidenhands have a flair for biological and medical technology.

OOCly, Maidenhand names are a mix of Netherlands and Asian names, including Japanese, Swedish, Chinese, Finnish, and Korean. Germanic names also pop up infrequently. Frequently, Maidenhand names are short and sharp - consisting of one to three syllables. When describing a Maidenhand's full name, it starts with their first name, surname, and the name of their Posse if they have one.

Posse names generally take cues from the immediate geographical location the Posse is located in, and a favoured animal by the Posse.

  • Part of a Posse - Your character was born in a posse local to an area. Your blood relatives and the other members of the posse raised you like family. After maturing to around eighteen years of age, your character set out to find a group of their own to roll with, while maintaining positive connections with their blood relatives and former posse.
    • Pariah - Something you did in the name of your Posse, or within it has caused you to be cast out by your Posse, and by extension, Maidenhand society. You now find yourself blending amongst other humans native to the area, and you can pass for one of them.

Like humans, Maidenhands appear very similar. Skin colours can range pale white to dark chocolate, with many Maidenhands sporting a pale or oriental colouration. Hair colours can also range from white blonde, to brunette, to black, and redhead. Maidenhands who roll with an animal-oriented posse may add some of the animal's features to themselves, such as ears, skin patterns, eyes, or other aspects.

Older Maidenhands prefer drab colours, camouflages, and wearing uniforms. Practicality is key over looks or style for the elderly Maidenhand. Contemporary Maidenhand posses buck the trend, incorporating animal motifs into their clothing and uniforms. The chosen animal is dictated by their posse's tastes, making minor cosmetic changes to their ears and eyes to imitate the posse's mascot animal, within reason.

To this end, they are fond of animal skins or animal skin prints, leathers, feathers, and beads. Piercings and small amounts of face paint are also common. Popular animal motifs for posses include Dogs, Cats, Wolves, Big Cats, Lizards, Snakes, Fish, Birds, and more. They generally keep their hair shaved down, short, braided, or tied back to allow them to wear helmets and combat masks comfortably. Facial hair is also kept short to prevent interference with combat gear too.

Maidenhand fingers and pariah dress however they please, usually blending in with whoever's around.
