Delrasu

Delrasu is the name given to the volcanic plains region of Ranil'inas. It is also the name of the Resa Sarhi that calls this area home. Delras is the Roshya hero that is said to have been born here.

Delrasu embodies the stereotypical image of Ranil’inas. It is a land of fire and ash with little else to supplement life. Any water that exists is typically close to boiling away and rivers of lava replace most of them. Under the constant, unrelenting heat of the sun, the land has adopted a texture similar to glass. The earth is cracked, fragile, and sharp, leaving little hope for conventional farming.

Yet, Raiken and others call this unforgiving wasteland home. Fauna and flora are particularly hardy, adopting a much rockier texture than most other creatures on the planet. Other than the glasslike plains that cover much of the landscape, geyser fields and steam valleys are also extremely common.

General Features

A wasteland with little to offer, Delrasu features sprawling glass plains, lava rivers and lakes, steaming valleys, and poisonous geyser fields, all under the harsh glare of Crias’roshya.

Glass Plains

These rocky plains have been blasted by the sun for an eternity, leaving the earth baked and glass-like. These glass plains cover much of Delrasu, leaving much of the landscape barren, as very little prospers here. On the hottest days, the glasslike stone reflects most of light from the sun, blinding those who gaze upon it. Many footsteps mark these lands, forever preserved.

Raiken do not inhabit these plains, nor do many fauna. Like Slevexa’s deserts or Ormroth’s mountains, the glass plains serve as barriers.

Steam Valleys

What little water remains in Delrasu is usually home to massive steam valleys, where lakes and river produce billowing clouds of thick steam from the heat. These valleys are incredibly hot and humid, but are still better suited for life than most other places. Small grasses are able to survive here, as well as fauna specialized for the area.

Raiken typically avoid the hottest of these steam valleys, but some are more welcoming than others, and almost all of them are more hospitable than the geyser fields or the glass plains.

Geyser Fields

Poisonous geyser fields dot the landscape of Delrasu, belching ash and sulfur into the air, as well as drawing magma from the earth below. These fields are typically avoided by most and only microbes thrive here, feeding on the rich sulfuric geysers.

In earlier years, the Alliance undertook an initiative to clean up many of these geyser fields, as they were pumping pollution into the atmosphere. Some of these fields have been destroyed or otherwise filtered in order to slow the decay of the air.

Lava Rivers/Lakes

Rivers and lakes of water are few and far between. Instead, rivers and lakes of lava fill much of Delrasu. These bubbling pools offer little in terms of habitability or sustenance. Instead, they separate and divide those who live here.

Oasis’

These scattered havens of liquid water and life are more valuable than any metal or treasure to those who live in Delrasu. Even more valuable than the oasis’ in Slevexa, these scattered oasis have long been places of conflict between Raiken clans, as well as the predators that dwell here.

With access to untainted water, some life is allowed to flourish here, even under the glare of the sun. Hardy plants and hardier fauna are always near these oasis’, many thriving alongside the Raiken who have found ways to invigorate these waters, at least the ones they haven’t dried up.

Notable Areas

The plains of Delrasu is home to many wonders, both natural and constructed, like any other region of Ranil’inas. Legends and tales accompany them, some of them true, all of them believed.

Daramai Delrasu / Code of Victory

Perched on a cliff overlooking the Sea of Fire, Daramai Delrasu stands. Constructed entirely of black and brown baked stone, Daramai Delrasu appears more like a fortress than any other Resa Sarhi keep, mostly from the teachings of Delrasu herself. The city is separated into tiers, each with its own walls. Members of Delrasu reside in the higher tiers, while others reside in the lower tiers. Outside the walled city, what farmland Daramai Delrasu can maintain exists, mostly with fields of 'Steelgrass'.

In the center of Daramai Delrasu stands a monumental obelisk of onyx, adorned with line upon line of ancient Raiken script. Here, it is told that Delrasu carved her teachings, her 'Code of Victory', thousands of lessons devoted to complete victory in conflict. However, her lessons are not confined to tactics in battle, they reach to cover almost every aspect of society.

Valley of the High Fires

The Valley of the High Fires is one of the largest, and hottest, steam valleys in Delrasu, and despite its proximity to the eastern pole, it has gained fame in the eyes of many Raiken. This long, winding valley is flanked by countless tributaries of lava and even greater amounts of geysers that spew forth molten rock and fire. Yet, a fast flowing, boiling river carves its path through the valley.

This near impossible landscape draws forth the admiration of those who look upon it, despite its lethality. Like other wondrous places, the Raiken have attached many tales to it, most notably the story of Delran, the first Hero of the High Fires. This has given birth to the practice of bearing the High Fires, entering the valley from one end and exiting through the other. Running this gauntlet is not only dangerous due to the temperature, but various beasts roam the High Fires and are apt to attack those who enter it.

Rari Atha / Sea of Fire

Rari Atha is the name given to the immense lava fall near Daramai Delrasu, across the Sea of Fire. At its widest and tallest, the falls spans over a kilometer and drops just over 50 meters, although several smaller falls complement Rari Atha, as the Sea of Fire is a basin for many smaller rivers. Rari Atha flows extremely slow, despite the size of the falls.

Rocks jut out from the falls, as well as the Sea of Fire, adding some character to the bubbling pool of lava. A handful of small islands, little more than large boulders, dot the surface of the Sea of Fire. One of these is home to a large statue of Delras doing battle with a lava worm, securing Daramai Delrasu.

Wildlife

To survive in Delrasu requires unique adaptations, which the flora and fauna have most certainly acquired over millenia. With little water, excessively high temperatures, and harsh terrain, the wastes certainly aren’t welcoming.

Flora

Steelgrass

Steelgrass appears as the name suggests. Tall, but thin, blades of metal-coated grass that thrives in much of the heat blasted wastes of Delrasu, at least where some shade is present. As plants are exceedingly rare, Steelgrass is incredibly valuable to the inhabitants of Delrasu. It is typically ground into a sort of grain and baked into a metal-rich sort of bread.

Fauna

Infrastructure/Transportation

Infrastructure in Delrasu is sparse at best, due to the challenging terrain, scattered population, and little tactical value. Still, the Alliance has made highways and railways for ease of transport for the population that resides in the wastes to make good on their promise to provide for all Raiken. Airfields are non-existent here, due to the extreme heat.

Cultural

Delrasu’s plains and unrelenting heat shape the culture of those who live within them, like any other region.

Delras

Delras, the Roshya that embodies decisive action and sure-footedness, calls Delrasu home. Inhabitants honor her path by acting swiftly and with confidence. They are also durable, given their environment.

Delrasu clans are more nomadic than most other clans, as their environment is usually very poor for standard agriculture. Their ideology of being decisive has permeated every aspect of their society. Their fighting styles are swift. Their wars are ended in a matter of days. They do not dwell on past actions and rarely go back on previous decisions.

Delras is considered to be a brilliant battlefield tactician, known for taking the initiative in any conflict. Those who value victory are wise to pay homage to her and to seek her guidance for any campaign, long or short.

The Burning Sun and Twin Moons

In Delrasu, the sun never leaves sight, always providing its intense and unrelenting light, strong enough to turn the earth to glass. Plants and fauna are hard-pressed to survive under such intense beams, as are Raiken. Shelter from the sun is just as valuable as food or water, making deep valleys and plateaus or mountains extremely valuable resources.

Where in Relatir and Ormroth, Rel and Ral provide light, they provide shade from the ever present sun in Delrasu. Over the course of every cycle, Rel and Ral trek across the bright sky as black orbs, casting a deep shadow in their wake. Unlike natural shadows, the shadows provided by Rel and Ral are seen as ill omens and most Raiken go out of their way to avoid them. Although, this consistent shade does provide strips of more habitable land, so some groups dismiss the notion of ill omens and reside here.
