Secci-Class Voidship

The Secci-class is an antiquated chelti warship which has been retired into inter-system transport services, pooling resources from around their local star systems into depots to be quickly picked up by superluminal ships with minimum stopping time. Compared to modern vessels it is a primitive hunk of machinery, lacking gravity systems beyond a centrifuge crew section clearly marking it out as being from a previous time.

However, for these ships duty has not ended, and still they watchfully haul their cargoes across space in the methodical march of progress until they are inevitably phased out or moved to other star systems. Retro-fitted starship models do exist but are very uncommon, as the design was judged unsuitable to be upgraded for FTL capability after a limited run of such upgrades.

  • Antiquated design, kept in service only because there's not enough to replace them,
  • No FTL capability, must slowboat around systems.
  • Used as transport for bulk goods.
  • Moderate weapons for a merchant, but outclassed by military vessels.

The Secci-class are notable only mostly for their greatly outdated centrifuge section with two rotating crew sections, built around a blocky, modular central spar with large engine nozzles in the rear, and a large braking nozzle in the bow. This modularity allows the Secci to adjust its length, but practically, excepting the front and rear sections (including the centrifuge) most of this class are seen between three and five cargo units long.

While now reduced to a transport, the Secci class does have a limited array of relatively weak and primitive weapons, even its small battery of hybrid turrets can give all but the most well-armed raiders cause for concern. However, this compliment is only considered sufficient to tackle ramshackle, small, or poorly equipped enemies such as many pirate gangs roaming the Reaches.

Secci-class warships were once part of the backbone for fledgling chelti nations attempting to wrest control of their home starsystem from their rivals. A common sight among factional propaganda and military displays, its time as a premier warship faded quickly, and ignobly. Leaving it to spend the rest of its existence often as a tugboat or transport to augment more modern and capable voidships.

With the advent of FTL, the Secci was left behind in the explosion of new technologies and designs, making it obsolete before more than a select few could be upgraded with any sort of FTL capability. Therefore, every Secci-class voidship throughout the Reaches has had to be placed there by a long range jumpship and thrust its way throughout its new home system.

While technically still on the Void Naval Register, these ships are not considered suitable for any sort of rearmament, and so are all but retired to their fates baring extreme circumstances.

Propulsion

Travel Type Capability Notes
High Impulse Yes Able to build up speed
Evasive Action Marginal Moderate mass, small maneuver engines
System Cruise No Slowboats between planets
Interstellar FTL No Requires Jumpship

Ships Complement

Minimum Crew: 4 Regular Crew 15 Maximum Passenger: 200

Skeleton crews are the norm for these ships in their current roles, plenty of berth space having simply been abandoned in the shift from warship to transport.

Armament

8x1 Navy 280 Hybrid Guns
Name and description, a heading for each type of weapon along with the numbers on board.

Active Protection

Point defense systems, electronic warfare, reactive shields. If it's proactive defense, it goes here.
Light Laser Ring PD
Basic SCRMP Defense System

Passive Protection

Light Armor

These ships are meant to fill chelti system traffic with meaningful set pieces/targets. In wartime emergencies there are contingency plans to turn them into giant near-stationary missile platforms for jumpship defense.
