Humboldt-class Attack Frigate
The Humboldt is a modern take on the Attack Frigate role, with more efficient weapons placement, thruster use, and powerful weapons for its size.
Characteristics
- Fleet defense
- Quick strikes
- Easy to repair and rearm
- Efficient weapon placement
Mass | 3200 tonnes |
---|---|
Beam | 145 meters |
Height | 40 meters |
Width | 65 meters |
Appearance
With an angular shape, vaguely triangular with weapons platforms with overlapping fields of fire. has two prominent bows from large sloped sides with the spine section being leveled for superfiring weapon hardpoints. Being wider than it is high, the bow widens along the beam until the last third, where it levels out. The sides are heavily beveled. On the front third are two protrusions which often house addition weapons.
Mission Profile
Designed with firepower in mind for its small size, the Humboldt is an expressly aggressive design with a lot of firepower packed into a small platform. Making it excellent as a fleet defense frigate, but more often as an attack frigate.
With good speed and handling, Humboldts are agile attackers who are able to quickly respond to enemy movements and are often used in swarm attacks over isolated enemy fleets or ships. Useful for chasing down retreating enemies, Humboldts are known as ruthless hunters by enemy combatants.
History
An attempt to update upon the venerable Kalahan design, with a greater focus on firepower. With better armor, weapons placement, and spacial design. The longevity of this design is yet to be discovered, but Humboldts are being produced across the Reaches to fill in fleets. However not yet in great enough quantities to completely displace its older sibling.
It does maintain the similar ease-of-repair and fast turn-around times of its origin design, with a greater focus on firepower and a more specific mission. The Humboldt adds a much more flexible fleet attack element to void action groups in direct combat and patrols. Although currently still somewhat too sparse to completely displace other designs, packs of Humboldts are seen using overwhelming swarm attacks upon larger vessels.
Capabilities
Propulsion
Travel Type | Capability | Notes |
---|---|---|
High Impulse | Yes | |
Evasive Action | Yes | |

Interstellar FTL | No | Needs jumpship |
Ships Complement
10 Officers, including captain and junior officers
35 Crew, gunners, engineers, operators, security.
Armament
??x Navy "400" Hybrid Guns
Part of the ships primary armament, the rapid-fire capability, coupled with the number of guns allows the Humboldt to output a lot of firepower, but its size limits the amount of ammunition it can carry, which can make it require frequent resupply depending on combat intensity
Point Defense System
Probably a good idea to bring one of these if it's a warship or armed freighter. A brief description of the type and capability. A laser system, or otherwise.
Protective Equipment
The ships armor, secondary protection, damage control measures, and anti-boarding measures, a sub-header for each.
OOC
Humboldts are aggressive, but not especially well armored, just better armored than the ship it's replacing.
