XGS-300 'Amelia' Subspace Navigator

Bridging the gap between a fighter and an intersystem gunship, the XGS-300 was a long-range FTL strategic reconnaissance starship operated by The Greater Cluster during their occupation of Aleph 3591 until its independence was won, becoming Aleph Null.

Featuring a high grade sheoul-burning subspace engine, the Amelia 's purpose was to operate at extreme velocity and range in order to outrun opponents while capturing meaningful information about enemy targets, feeding information to other larger craft.

Interestingly, the Amelia was one of the first Maidenhands, possessing a physicalized avatar for the purpose of better integration with manned forces. While it primarily operated unmanned, for legal purposes the interior of the XGS-300 features a cabin and survival space for two occupants.

Her unusually massive hull for a fighter is nessesitated by her requirement for her large sheoul-burning subspace engine and large control surface antennae used to remain stable at higher speeds during faster-than-light travel or approaching FTL speeds. This grants the Amelia massive and unheard of navigational independence for a craft of its size – though it was enormously dependant on pre-planned refuelling and intense maintenance on her two high grade FTL engines.

Another major cause of the XGS-300's large size was the integration of the pilot's mind into its systems – with their body being only a physical representation of the pilot for the purpose of psychological hygiene and the preservation of self – as the brain was massively enhanced by the XGS-300's computer-banks. They were in this sense, not paired permanently as reversal surgery or the creation of a new body was entirely possible, though to seperate the two is a great feat only achieved much later with micronization of previously enormous computer structures which were later small enough to be surgically implanted rather than directly linked.

The reasoning for this advanced operational capacity was to make accurate assessments of enemy targets, enormous decryption loads and to make accurate battle decisions when moving at speeds greater than light when massive eventualities need to be planned for beforehand. In this sense, many of these early maidenhands had a brief statistical window into the future, seeing many potential events which could happen and then performing actions which move towards the statistically more survivable clusters. This gave them what seemed to be precognition, when really they were operating with some of the most advanced computational and statistical processing systems of their time – fundamentally altering their awareness of reality.

The XGS-300 served the Greater Cluster from BA-120 to BA-157 and towards the latter half of the war the factories producing it had been seized and relocated into Thunderhead's orbit under possession of the Albion Independence Rebellion where it would be “convinced” to fight for a superior cause through very basic reconditioning and experience in civilian-life – giving rise to the first Maidenhands and the very last avatar-drone weapons to be produced by the Greater Cluster.

In total, only twelve XGS-300 were ever lost and many remain functional today in civilian or defense roles to Albion under the service of knighthood for their role in the war - though their work is primary purpose is system defense they are often relegated to tasks of law enforcement in the vicinity of Albion. They are known for their keen intuition and lightning fast seemingly precognitive reflexes.

While the Amelia can operate entirely unmanned or even under remote, she operates at her best with a pilot (in the front seat) and a systems-officer (rear seat). The purpose of the pilot obviously is to steer and manoeuvre the craft, while the systems officer is focused on adjusting the performance perimeters and providing extra combat awareness in realtime. Optionally, the systems officer may take control of any Lazarus unit which can be managed using the M4 system (such an M2, Winter II or another Amelia) by remote.

The interior of the Amelia is roomy with full variable gravity, two bunks and a galley by default on deck 1 and a cargo-hold on deck 2. A primary column serves to connect the two: either using artificial gravity as an elevator shaft (which can also allow those onboard to dis-embark) or emulating a micro-gravity environment (allowing those onboard to simply push themselves up into the craft without having to use the lift). In the event these systems fail, a ladder is available. The central column also serves as a decontamination chamber, airlock, shower and features a fold-out lavatory system. When not in use, the central column becomes a volumetric table in the centre of the cabin. Commonly, it is fitted with a cutting and sealing system used to board craft (ideal during salvage ops).

Weapons-Systems

The bulk of the Amelia's weapons are integrated into the body for a better subspace profile and heightened reliability. Importantly, the Amelia relies on a mixed armament doctrine for dealing with different target types.

Situated on the articulated weapons-pylons on the main-wing, the cyclones offer a high rate of fire and intense kinetic kill potential against more lightly armed targets. They are ideally used against other fighters and excel

An array of four twin-barrel solenoid guns are located on the shoulders of the Amelia. Similar to the arrays fitted to the Winter II, they rely on sheer number and coverage to make life hell for smaller targets, mimicking the two-up two-down either-side

A 12 meter long aether cannon is located inline to the craft's main body. Can be extended forward and aimed up to 120 degrees either side for flanking or 90 degrees beneath.

Mounted above and below the wings, these weapons-pylons allow for the armament and launch of a wide variety of munitions types – from weapons-pods and missile systems to drones and anti-starship warheads. The pylons can be tilted up to 180 degrees, allowing them to fire at targets off angle or even behind the Amelia.

Rotary missile launcher, similar to mini-gun style weapons, designed to release large successive volleys of missiles very quickly - primarily with the purpose of overwhelming the target.
