Souls

Within the setting of WSO there exists an intrinsic connection to the fundamental force of the universe commonly known as magic. This connection is commonly tied to the concept of a soul. What exactly this means to an individual or culture varies, however for the sake of ease of communication the term “soul” will be used.

Souls exist in the form of one of two main varieties; Analog and Digital.

This is the connection that is formed between a living being, and the universal force of magic upon conception and develops over the course of the individual's life. This connection is as nuanced, complex, and individual as the physical, cellular makeup of their body. It is through the cultivation and exercise of the soul that individuals are capable of interacting with, and utilizing magic.

This exists as an attempt at replicating the existence of the Analog Soul, and is considered a sampled copy. While the Digital Soul fails to accomplish that which the Analog Soul provides, a connection to magic due to the inability of technological means to copy the complexity and nuance of the Analog Soul, the Digital Soul still registers as a soul to those who are capable of ascertaining such and can be considered camouflage or comfort to those who are sensitive to such things.
