Lorath Cultural and Physical Discription
(Salvaged from the old CCG page, new and up to date page can be found here: Lorath Character Creation Guide)
The Lorath are a humanoid race with Bird-like wings. Not many can fly though, due to their exile of 5,000 years underground. It was only recently that they have resurfaced, and taken back the world from the other race of Lor. Through the bloody conflict, the Lorath were able to coerce their will upon the above world race. The race that had lost became the Lorath's slaves, serving those that they had driven out from fear so long ago.
The Lorath are human in appearance (Except for the Bird-like wings, and the varying heights). But although they mostly look human, some have changed. The Fyunnen house for example, is very imposing. Usually ranging in areas of six and a half to seven feet in height, they are in every aspect a solid muscle. The Lmanel house is the middle of the two, a decent height and a decent build from being in nature for so long, doing the more laboring tasks of the race. The New Tur'lista (Formerly Occhestian) house on the other hand, is the smallest and physically weakest of the race. But making up for their small stature, none can match the New Tur'lista house in matters of technology or diplomacy. The New Tur'lista house is the primary supplier of technology for the race.
Birds of a Feather
While most of the race cannot fly, the wings are still in everyday life. They are still able to be moved, can be flapped even though they don't have the muscle strength to actually fly. The flapping can be of some use when one wants to cool down, or be of use as an insult to another. The wings are covered in jet black feathers that from time to time will molt.
A Lorath's hair is who she is
A Lorath's hair defines her. No two people have the same style if it isn't wanted; at least that's how they see it. In a race that shares a good deal of physical appearances (Save for heights and sizes) their hair is how they stick out. For most women, the length of their hair denotes their ranking, but not how it looks. With everyone born with stark white hair, the Dye market is always profitable. Usually Lorath, both men and women, dye their hair to the color of their house, but not all do. There are many different hair colors and styles, almost any that you can imagine
Cute ears always attract attention
Within the Lorath race genes play a specific role in every aspect of life, this does not leave out even the aspect of the structure of the ear. Due to the selective breeding within each house, ears are a method of telling a member of one house, from a member of another. Fyunnen are often known to have ears that have a point to them; their appearance is much like that of a human ear other than the two additional inches at the tip of the top of the ear. Members of the New Tur'lista house are known for their rather plain looking ear, which has nearly an exact same appearance as a human-like ear, except for ear lobes that are not separated from the jaw line. Lmanels, on the other hand, are known for their unusually long ears, which are nearly as beast like as their spirit, the shape of the ear is long and it becomes slender near the tip, where three odd triangular spikes are located, some individuals believe that the ear fits an exaggerated example of a felines ear.
Keeping it in the Family
Lorath are bred within their own houses for this very reason. Through controlled breeding, the Lorath were able to create houses where they were bred for a special purpose. The Fyunnen house is the largest of all. The tallest, height ranging anywhere from 6' to 7', and best built, they seem to be always in shape, no matter what. The New Tur'lista house on the other hand is the smallest. Tiny compared to the Fyunnen house, they only come to about 5'5“, though there has been a few to be closer to 6', though that is rather rare. Their frames are rather small, not suited in the least bit for physical activity outside of running, walking, or other day-to-day activities. The Lmanel House is the middle house; although not quite as small as the New Tur'lista, but not as large as the Fyunnen house, they are dependent on the size of the animal they bond with.
With age comes wisdom
The age for all Lorath is twice the age of a normal Yamataian. So in the instance that you wish your character to be around the age of 20, then the Lorath's age will be 40, as she ages twice as slowly in physical aspects.
The name says it all
Naming for the Lorath is often difficult. First they have their professional title, or position within their family, such as “Queen” or “High Priest”, “Task Master” and others as the list goes on. Everyone in each family has this first name, and it is used when talking to one of higher authority then oneself. The second part of the name is the On-world name. The on-world name is very formal, and usually contains one or more apostrophes, giving the name a section that is pronounced with a harder tone. The third part of the name is much simpler, used in much more in-formal situations, or for off-world people. The fourth part of the name indicates the individual's family line. The last part of the name is the easiest part, as it is the house name you are a part of.
Examples:
Communications Specialist Juela 'Dico' Nessa Tur'lista
Commander Sy'lped 'Heartbreak' Gilith Fyunnen
Agriculturalist Khy'zih 'Green-Thumb' Rezan Lmanel
The Word of the Goddess
The faith of the Goddess does not have a 'Bible' in a singular collection, this has been done so as to avoid the creation of a document which would create precedent over the decisions of the clergy. Instead the Lorath Clergy have edicts of doctrine that are used to to establish guiding regulation, in conjunction with 'collections' of scripture, none of which can be labelled as a singular catch-all publication.
These texts are collectively known as the 'Codex of Canon Law', and are recorded in a singular document that is updated exclusively by the royalty of the Matriarchy, along with hand-appointed theologians. The contents of the Codex of Canon Law are indexed and made available for reference not only among the Clergy but also the citizens of the Matriarchy allowing for any to find guidance among the collected texts if desired.
