Human-Object Weapons (HOWs) are the organic interface branch of the Direct Action Division, partnered for life with an AI program, they are cloned from desirable organic stock or prior HOW and trained for war from birth. HOWs provide both a sympathetic face for the Digital Life Foundation, and an unpredictable edge to their special operations department.
Coming from a variety of species, there are few standards among HOWs, and a lot of their equipment is custom fabricated for their use, and their needs are well looked after, as though they were children being doted upon sometimes.
HOWs treat outsider organics in a variety of ways, most often polite but distant. Few will show the superiority many of the feel to unaugmented and under-trained organics of less cultivated eugenics like their own that some may or may not feel.
HOWs are most often seen in their combat gear, but when not in operations their fashion is often a mix of comfortable but practical and close fitting clothes, cyberized jewelry that fits snugly, with thick protective cloaks or coats over the top. The impression is one of efficiency, purpose, but with a touch of personal flair and style.
HOWs often take elements of fashion from other organic cultures that they appreciate, so styles of clothing vary widely between them, while any jewelry or finery they might wear are almost always augmented for one use or another.
How do they construct things? What do they construct them like?
Being part of the Foundations militarized arm, HOW technology is extremely sophisticated and made to a high spec. Their ships are sleek and highly capable, their armor is finely made, and they can take command of their AI partners massive warforms in battle to turn themselves into imposing enemies.
Even outside the cockpit, HOWs agility is boosted by exosuits, jump packs, and a variety of highly personalized kit for each ones own use.
Being weapons of war, HOWs primarily focus their technological efforts on weapon development, however with the Foundations strong technological base, many of their efforts go towards applying their current technology in new ways to accomplish their missions easier.
Since AI are unable to use magic themselves, HOWs are instrumental to magical defense and usage for the Foundation, as such many HOWs are heavily encouraged to cultivate magical talents if they demonstrate aptitude for it, and are often sent on missions to gather more knowledge to add to their own and the Foundations database of such.
Unfortunately this means there is a natural limit to the amount of cyberization any HOW can undergo before magical ability is affected.
Psionics are hard to find even among the “wild”, and so the few who do present such powers are keenly cultivated by the foundation, if possible arranging tutoring with advanced practitioners of such.
Do they farm? What do they farm? How do they farm?
Do they have any sort of gardening/landscaping habits? Terraforming?
Do they keep animals? For food? For play? What kind?
What are common cooking traditions? What is a likely flavour profile?
What is the commonly shared belief system through the species?
The main focus of the religion.
Are there any sort of rituals the culture goes through to celebrate the advancement of one through life and religion?
What are common traditions the culture holds? Is it annual, or based on some celestial alignment, or based on weather conditions, and so on.
Often born from cloning vats, or rarely from HOWs themselves (many opt to be sterilized upon maturity), or even more rarely taken from the “wild”, HOWs spend their entire lives immersed in a culture among themselves and their AI helpers. Upon the decision to create a new HOW, a new AI program will be germinated to learn and grow with the HOWs own development, essentially making every HOW an artificial twin. Raised by a village of fellow HOWs and a myriad of AI programs to cater to each stage of their development cycle.
Upon death, the HOW is “decommissioned” from service, and if possible, as much of their consciousness will be transferred into their AI partner who will assume their identity as a form of immortality as the original body is euthanized.
This section is used for showing some of the varieties of subcultures, subfactions, or subgroups present within a culture that one might encounter, or
that the designers may desire for the setting.
