====== Lorath Neural Processor Pack ====== * **Also Known as:** Neural Data Packs, or Neural-Gel Packs * **Designer:** [[:lorath_matriarchy]] Psionics R&D * **Manufacture:** Lorath Psionics Energy Supply and Genetic Labs production division. * **Intended Use:** Data storage and processing. === Information === The Neural Data Packs are intended to be used to process and store electronic data. The Packs are comprised of organic matter that is genetically engineered for its intended use. ===== Technical Information ===== The Neural Data Pack is designed for its intended purpose to be used as a processor and storage device. The Packs are built in a structure that is similar to a Lorath's brain matter, the backbone of the creation process are specially cultivated strains of Lorath DNA, this DNA which has been manipulated into only being brain matter which is then cloned repeatedly. Through the use of genetic engineering techniques the brain matter's ability to process and store information is increased by manipulating the use and efficiency of the protein based processing and storage. The data input to the Neural Packs is conducted by a series of micro-pulses of electricity intended to mimic the pulses of electricity in the Lorath brain. With the use of a series of electrical transformers, the electrical impulses transmitted through the neural packs can be stepped down to prevent damage to the packs, and the transmission from the packs can be stepped up to be more easily read by standard electrical devices. The packs also will have a buffer built into them that prevents harmful electrical surges and data from entering the packs and damaging them. Beyond the organic tissue, the structure of the Neural Processing Pack is quite simple, a plastic bag is used to contain the neural matter and protect it from external interference. A series of small tubes and microscopic wires are fed into the bag to provide the Neural Pack with basic nutrition and the electrical impulses to stimulate the tissues, as well as to transmit and receive data. The bag, tubes, and wires are attached to a module that varies in size dependent upon the application, the module usually measure at the same width and length as the bag of matter, the height is usually only a few inches. The whole assembly is placed inside of a "shoebox" sized metallic containment unit which functions analogously to a computer case. This case is filled with inertial dampening gel to prevent damage to the neural tissue through sudden movement. The containment unit is designed in a manner that allows for external attachment to be connected or for the unit to be easily inserted into ports on larger pieces of equipment allowing the Neural Pack module to be used as a processor device for various machines, computing devices, and vehicles. The power supply for the unit may be provided by an outside source when the unit is attached to another piece of equipment. When used independently the unit is powered by a [[lorath_matriarchy:technology:lorath_bacterial_charge_pack|Bacterial Charge Pack]]. Nutrition for the neural matter is handled by an automated system integrated into the module, the nutrients can be supplied either by an injection of a nutritional supplement into a port on the module connected to an internal storage tank or alternatively supplied through the module's built in atmospheric intake which draws in atmospheric gasses through a series of vents on the case and processes the organic molecules into nutritional material that is then passed into the pack. This storage tank is connected to a regulator which controls the amount of nutrients to be provided to the brain matter, while also removing waste matter which is then expelled from the unit as an odourless, gaseous, non-toxic by-product. The neural tissue present withing the Neural Pack has been genetically engineered to reduce the need for nutrients to a minimum. This allows for the regulated, automated feeding over time from the storage tank of the Neural Pack to only require replenishment once in a 30 to 120 day interval depending on the processing strain placed upon the pack. A need which is helpfully monitored and indicated by internal monitoring systems.
